THE CALM BEHIND THE MUSIC
Listen for the quiet
Calming sounds
Behind the rattling
Background noise
We call music
They whisper
Ever so lightly
They long to replace our distractions
Like TV
And our beloved cell Phone
To which we are bound.
Why do we need
Distractions?
Why do we prefer
The thunder
Of today’s music?
Distractions have become
Our savior helping us flee
The quiet place
For which we all long
When weighty, worrisome
thoughts come in
To slap our brain
Silly
We need to learn
That the Spirit still has access
To slip righteousness in
To surprise our soul
To counter the stealth
Of the enemy
One day
A thought, a dream,
A memory, a whisper,
The things truth is made of,
Start to happen when
You are witless,
Out of wisdom
God’s Spirit
Is like no other.
It is much copied
Greatly desired
Often falsely imagined
God’s Spirit is music
Without notes
Without clamor
A still, small voice
God’s thoughts
Are not your thoughts
That is how
You will know them.
They are kind
Righteous, timely, perfect
One day you will give them
A place of honor
You will give them a try
